The MAG3 is the world s smallest commercially available analog inertial measurement unit, providing triaxial analog outputs for acceleration, rate of turn (gyroscope) and magnetic field data in a custom SMT package measuring 18 x 18 x 10mm in size. The MAG3 also provides a temperature output to allow for the implementation of compensation techniques and the magnetic sensor reset feature can be used to periodically condition the magnetic sensor for optimum performance.

Details

The MAG3 sensor provides analogue outputs of triaxial magnetic field, acceleration and angular rate (gyro). The MAG3 product suite is capable of sensing +/-1.9 gauss, +/-150 - 1200 degrees/s angular rate and +/-2, +/- 5g and +/- 10g acceleration about three axes. MAG3 provides analogue outputs for angular rate, acceleration and precision references about the X, Y, and Z-axes.

A temperature output is also provided allowing the implementation of compensation techniques. A digital self-test input electromechanically excites each axis to test proper operation of the sensors and the signal conditioning circuits. The MAG3 is based on MEMS technology and is available in a custom 44-pin SMT package measuring 18 × 18 × 10 mm.

Magnetometer Reset Function

The accuracy of the MAG3’s triaxial magnetometer may be degraded after exposure to strong magnetic fields of 20 gauss or larger. Such fields may cause a decrease in the sensor’s sensitivity, linearity or a complete “stuck” output. For this reason, the MAG3 includes a set/reset circuit that regains magnetic sensing accuracy after exposure to strong magnetic fields. The magnetometer reset function should be performed as an initialization process for the MAG3.

Standard operating temperature range is 0 to 70°C, however this can be increase to -40 to +85°C with the military specification unit.

Gyro rates are typically 150, 300, 600 or 1200 deg/s, although up to 6000 deg/s is possible. Custom bandwidths of 25-400Hz are also available. Please contact us directly for pricing and availability for any options not listed below.

Analogue Interface Board
AIB01
Analog Interface Board for MEMSense IMU devices. The dual sided component board provides buffered analog outputs for the data. In addition, buffered voltage references and temperatures for each gyro axis are provided. The Board can be soldered in the factory to your sensor to ease integration and avoid damage to the sensors or AIB.
