Vibration monitoring sensors are used in a variety of different applications to provide continuous, or periodic, monitoring of any vibrations in a wide range of different equipment. Change to the normal vibration signal can indicate issues that need immediate attention to prevent damage to equipment. Changes can indicate a piece of machinery is working loose from its mounting, a fan blade imbalance, bearing failures or other machinery wear. Early indication of these types of issues can prevent extended machine shutdowns, loss of manufacturing time and ensure that suitable remedial action is taken to repair, or order replacement parts. Recording the vibration readings at regular intervals can be useful to highlight the gradual wear of part of a machine. This can help to provide information on the expected life of machinery in any given application and allow for suitable replacement to be purchased before a failure and prevent any significant shutdowns.

Eddy Current Probes
Eddy Current/Proximity probes are used for non contact vibration and displacement measurement. The core applications for these sensors is monitoring shaft expansion, relative vibration and speed on a range of rotating machinery from turbines to pumps and compressors. A proximity probe system is made up of an inductive sensor embedded in a stainless steel body with a fixed & tuned length of coaxial cable connected to a separate driver unit. The driver provides the excitation to the probe and generates a linearised output proportional to the gap between the target material and probe tip.
