The MiniWater 64 is a vane anemometer for measuring the flow velocities of water with a linear current output. The MiniWater 64 provides a 4-12mA output relative to flow velocity ranges of up to 5m/s or 10m/s with Micro and Mini sized turbines. The units require a 9-26vDC power supply and the standard plastic, Aluminium probes can be used up to 70°C. The sensors are simple to install and can be easily integrate into a fixed system with other instrumentation including data loggers or displays.

Details

The MiniWater 64 range of probes designed with at least two component parts. A snaphead vane anemometer and a probe handle. The probe handle contains all the electronic components and comes with 5m cable with flying leads. All plastic snapheads are designed to be replaceable with an Aluminium vane for use in river and water courses to measure the flow rates.

In anemometry, the accuracy achieved by a vane probe is acknowledged to be unmatched. The vane rotation is closely linear to flow velocity and is unaffected by pressure, temperature and density. In the Miniwater probes, as each metal blade passes the probe handle, a pulse is generated by a simple magnetic pick up in the handle. The electronics of the MiniWater 64 reads the pulse and converts these readings to a linear 4-12mA output signal.

The MiniWater vane anemometers are available in two different sizes: Micro and Mini, with two different flow ranges available for each: 0-5ms; and 0-10m/s. Each anemometer has a different starting flow velocity as a certain flow is required to overcome the initial stationary friction forces of the individual turbines. All outputs are ranged from 0m/s and the anemometers will provide readings below the initial start up speeds once the turbines have some momentum.

Snap-Head Replacement

The snap-head fixing system renders it very simple to fit a new impeller to the flow probe: this saves costly non-productive time and in the event of weeds being tangle in the turbine or damage to the snap-head enables you to have the probe back in service in a matter of seconds by simply changing the snap-head.

Every MiniWater probe generate a pulse each time a vane blade passes the probe handle and the MiniWater 64 electronics converts the output to a linear 4-12mA output. Each snap head and probe handle are paired and any replacement snap head should be of the same original size and flow range. Fitting an incorrect snap head will not match the probe handle and therefore the MiniWater 64 will no longer provide an accurate output.

The standard probes are a synthetic plastic construction snap head with an Aluminium vane turbine and handle. These units are designed for monitoring water flows in rivers and other water course, but can be use with flow of non-aggressive liquids.
