Tinytag Plus 2 Current Data Logger

The Tinytag Plus 2 TGP-4820 is an industrial-grade, single-channel AC current data logger tailored for rugged field environments, plant maintenance, and heavy machinery uptime tracking. Unlike the screen-equipped View 2 series, the TGP-4820 features the iconic, ultra-robust IP68 waterproof housing characteristic of the Plus 2 lineage, protecting the core logging electronics from heavy washdowns, deep humidity, and environmental debris. Supplied complete with the updated ACS-0006 clip-on current clamp probe, this unit allows electrical engineers and service contractors to capture true phase loading profiles non-invasively on larger plant lines.

Core Features & Technical Breakdown

  • Upgraded Jaw Capacity Clamp: The newly configured ACS-0006 current clamp expands testing capabilities with a maximum 28 mm conductor opening. This accommodates significantly larger heavy-gauge wires and distribution cabling than older product variants.
  • Massive Non-Volatile Memory Array: Significantly expanded memory footprint capable of holding up to 208,320 continuous readings. Data is written to secure, non-volatile flash memory, meaning critical power consumption logs are completely preserved even during an unplanned battery drain.
  • Flexible Operational Sampling: Configurable to capture true operational behaviour with three selective reading choices per logging window: Actual, Minimum, or Maximum peak values. This helps identify momentary machinery surge currents or brief operational dropouts.
  • Magnetic Switch Trigger Start: Alongside programmable software-delayed start options (up to 45 days), the logger includes an internal magnetic reed switch. Technicians can pass a magnet over the casing marking to manually initiate live recording directly at the moment of machine deployment.
  • Industrial Latching Alarms: Features 2 user-definable, fully programmable alarms. Red and green LED indicator bulbs on the face of the unit flash to report active recording status or flag a breached threshold.

Applications

Perfect for monitoring processing lines, pumping stations, and food/beverage lines where hardware is routinely exposed to splashing liquids.
Ideal for long-term placement near heavy air compressors, conveyors, and extraction fans to monitor cycle profiles and flag operational wear over time.
Designed with a $28text{ mm}$ jaw to easily fit older, thicker, or heavily insulated main wires inside tight terminal enclosures.
Deployed inside mobile plant housings, HVAC frames, or off-grid sites where varying line frequencies (up to 400Hz) require dependable true RMS analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ Q: Can I use this logger without the software?
A: No; you must have the Tinytag Explorer software and a CAB-0007-USB cable to set up the logging intervals and download the recorded data.
▶ Q: Does the clamp fit around large industrial cables?
A: The supplied ACS-0006 clamp is suitable for conductor sizes up to 28mm in diameter, covering most standard mains and industrial power cables.
▶ Q: How long will the battery last?
A: The logger uses a user-replaceable battery. In typical 10-minute logging intervals, it can last for several months, but for extended deployments, we recommend the SER-9500 Service Kit for fresh spares.

Trigger Start Magnet for various Tinytag data loggers. The magnet is ideal for delayed triggering of Tinytag loggers that have been set up for a trigger start. The magnet is merely passed over the correct location on the logger and the lights will start to flash showing that logging procedure has been started. The position of the unit's trigger start switch is indicated by the • • • label on the back of the logger.
