The Gill Instruments MaxiMet standard series is an ultra-compact, all-in-one solid-state meteorological station suite engineered for reliable, continuous monitoring across land-based infrastructure. Designed to replace cumbersome, multi-component weather stations, the MaxiMet integrates precision sensor arrays into a single, aerodynamic housing. By removing mechanical cups, wind vanes, and tipping buckets, the series eliminates physical wear, freezing failures, and the need for frequent site maintenance, making it perfect for remote or uncrewed installations.

Core Features & Technical Breakdown

  • Solid-State Weather Engineering: Features an open-path ultrasonic wind sensor measuring speed 0 to 60 m/s and direction 0 to 360° Because the measurement relies on acoustic travel time, it avoids mechanical inertia—enabling an ultra-low startup threshold of just 0.01 m/s for precise low-wind tracking.
  • Naturally Aspirated Radiation Shield: Temperature and relative humidity sensors are housed inside an integrated, multi-plate radiation shield. The geometry maximises natural airflow while reflecting solar radiation, ensuring highly accurate thermodynamic readings even under direct, intense sunlight.
  • Robust IP66 Enclosure: Built from engineering-grade, UV-stabilised polymers rated to IP66. The housing is fully sealed against heavy downpours, windblown dust, and industrial pollutants common in factory or roadside environments.
  • Industrial Communication Matrix: Transmits all parameters down a single, consolidated data string. The internal transmitter natively supports digital infrastructure protocols including Modbus (RTU/ASCII), RS232, RS422, RS485, NMEA 0183, and SDI-12 (the standard for environmental data loggers).
  • On-Board Calculated Metrics: The microprocessor automatically handles secondary calculations inline, outputting direct metrics for Dew Point, Heat Index, Wind Chill, Wet Bulb Temperature, and Absolute Humidity without requiring external PLC math blocks.

Because land-based applications range from basic wind tracking to full agricultural micro-climate modelling, the standard MaxiMet series is broken down into modular, parameter-specific hardware profiles. This allows you to match your exact data requirements without paying for unnecessary sensor hardware. Whether you need a dedicated ultrasonic wind cell, a pure thermodynamic grid, or a complete weather array paired with optical rain tipping and integrated GPS tracking, the MaxiMet range offers a plug-and-play drop-in solution.

The MaxiMet GMX200 is an ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensor with an electronic compass. This enables the unit to provide apparent wind measurements, average speed and direction together with WMO averages and gust data is also provided. The optional GPS also provide compensated wind speed and direction readings, making the instrument ideal for wind monitoring on vehicle and vessels.
