Tinytag Talk 2 TK-4702

The Tinytag Talk 2 TK-4702 is a compact, cost-effective, single-channel DC voltage data logger housed in Gemini’s signature, lightweight 35mm film canister style enclosure. Engineered to bridge the gap between delicate board electronics and standard industrial control systems, this model handles a versatile 0V to 25V DC range. The TK-4702 functions as the higher-voltage, wide-span companion to the 2.5V TK-4703 variant. It is the premier compact solution for monitoring standard 12V/24V industrial supply loops, tracking battery discharge trends, and recording process control outputs where physical space inside electrical enclosures is severely limited.

Core Features & Technical Breakdown

  • Film Canister Form Factor: Weighs a featherlight 30g and measures an ultra-compact 34 mm X 54 mm. This allows the hardware to sit comfortably inside crowded distribution boxes, automotive wiring looms, or sub-panel cavities.
  • High-Impedance Input Buffer: Designed with a 100kΩ input impedance to ensure the logger can connect to live circuits and sensor loops without drawing significant current or loading down the primary circuit under test.
  • Non-Volatile Internal Memory: Features an internal flash memory array capable of holding up to 16,000 readings. Data records remain perfectly safe and retrievable even if the unit experiences a complete battery drain mid-deployment.
  • Dynamic Sampling Options: Can be programmed via software to record Actual, Minimum, or Maximum voltage values within each chosen logging window, helping operators capture sudden voltage drops or power surges.
  • Direct Input Lead Bundle: Ships standard as a complete kit containing the CAB-3233 3-wire input cable (1.5m length). The lead plugs into the base of the unit and breaks out into clean, bare wire ends for quick termination into terminal blocks.

Core Technical Specifications

  • Voltage Range: 0V to 25 vDC.
  • Maximum Safe Input: 35 vDC.
  • Reading Resolution: 10mV or better.
  • Logging Interval: Fully user-programmable from 1 second up to 10 days.
  • Environmental Protection: IP30 rated (Splashproof only; optimised for clean indoor or secondary enclosure use).
  • Operating Temperatures: -40°C to +85°C.
  • Power Supply: ½AA 3.6V internal Lithium cell providing an annual field operational life.

Applications

Perfect for tracking cell discharge profiles, monitoring solar array battery banks, and auditing heavy vehicle or marine electrical infrastructure.
Seamlessly maps scaled analogue DC voltage signals from external industrial instruments measuring flow rate, relative pressure, gas metrics, or weight.
Highly popular in technical training facilities and research benches due to its low infrastructure cost and simple bare-wire sensor interfacing.
The tiny 34mm diameter case allows it to be left inline behind control panels where bulkier, waterproof industrial loggers simply won't physically fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ Q: Can I use the TK-4702 to monitor signals below 2.5V?
A: Yes, the logger will read voltages down to 0V. However, because the 0-25V scale is wider, the resolution is step-mapped at around 10mV. If you are tracking tiny millivolt fluctuations from high-precision sensors, the Tinytag Talk 2 TK-4703 (0-2.5V range) will provide significantly higher resolution (50mµV).
▶ Q: Is the canister enclosure waterproof for field research?
A: No, the standard film-canister housing is rated to IP30. It is not waterproof or dustproof. For outdoor field research or high-humidity industrial plants, you must place the logger inside a weatherproof junction box, or step up to the ruggedised Tinytag Plus 2 TGP-4704 equivalent.
▶ Q: What do the three wires on the supplied CAB-3233 cable connect to?
A: The wires connect as follows: Yellow is your active positive signal input (0-25V), Black is your common ground (0V), and White is the hardware Sense Line used to pulse external sensors if required (can be left taped off if unused).
▶ Q: How do I offload data if the input cable uses the only port on the unit?
A: The 2.5mm jack on the bottom of the logger serves as both the sensor input and the data link. When you are ready to download your data, unplug the sensor lead and connect the CAB-0005-USB download cable into that same port to offload readings to your PC.
