TCG140 Remote IO Module

The Teracom TCG140-4 is an advanced 4G LTE universal I/O telemetry module designed for high-density sensor aggregation, distributed process monitoring, and heavy-duty asset control. Building upon the foundational logic of the TCG120 series, the TCG140-4 dramatically scales up its physical and digital interface options, making it the preferred field controller for complex industrial environments where local networking is completely absent.

Equipped with an onboard data logger and multi-protocol flexibility, it functions simultaneously as an edge-level programmable logic controller (PLC) and an IoT data transmitter.

Key Technical Capabilities

  • Expanded Analogue & Current Loop Inputs: Features 4 Analogue Inputs (0 to 10VDC). Uniquely, two of these channels are web-interface selectable to switch into standard 0 to 20mA / 4-20mA current loop modes via an internal 410-ohm precision resistor. This allows direct integration of industrial flow meters, pressure transmitters, and gas level sensors.
  • Quad Form C Relays: Provides 4 independent Relay Outputs (Normally Open and Normally Closed contacts rated up to 3A @ 24VDC / 30VAC). This doubles the physical actuation capacity compared to baseline models, accommodating complex multi-stage machinery control.
  • Dual Digital Bus Architecture: * 1-Wire Interface: Supports up to 8 Teracom digital environmental sensors (e.g., temperature, humidity, and PT100 transmitters) via standard RJ11 daisy-chaining.
    • RS485 Modbus RTU: Operates as a master node supporting up to 8 Modbus RTU sensors or third-party slave devices (such as multi-channel energy meters or pulse counters) via an RJ45 port.
  • Onboard Data Logging (70,000 Records): Includes massive internal non-volatile FLASH storage that tracks and time-stamps data points at set intervals (down to 1 minute) or on alarm states. The module automatically uploads historical logs directly to your server as a CSV payload via periodic HTTPS POST requests.

Advanced Automation & Logging

While the TCG120-4 handles point-to-point alerting, the TCG140-4 excels in comprehensive site logging and closed-loop control. For instance, in a pharmaceutical cold-storage facility, it can continuously log up to 8 distinct points of temperature/humidity data, track electrical power parameters over Modbus RTU, trigger secondary backup compressors via its 4 onboard relays if an internal set point fails, and push scheduled CSV records back to a central SCADA platform for compliance reporting.

4G Coverage

The primary distinction between the legacy TCG140 and the latest TCG140-4 version is their mobile network connectivity: the TCG140 operated on only the 2G (GSM/GPRS) networks, while the TCG140-4 is the new upgraded version that supports 4G LTE Cat. 1, with backward compatibility to 2G (TCG140-4G covers 2G and 3G). This makes the TCG140-4 the better choice as 2G networks are being phased out in many regions.

The TCG140-4E covers bands:

4G LTE: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20
2G: B3/B8

The TCG140-4G covers bands:

4G LTE: B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B13/B18/B19/B20/B25/B26/B28/B66/B34/B38/B39/B40/B41
3G: B1/B2/B4/B5/B6/B8/B19
2G: B2/B3/B5/B8

The TCG140-4 is the ideal solution if your deployment relies on standard 4-20mA industrial loops, requires local data backup to protect against cellular dropouts, or needs to interface with Modbus-enabled hardware. For basic voltage monitoring or low-density installations, the TCG120-4 remains the leaner, budget-friendly option.

Frequently Asked Questions

â–¶ Q: Can I trigger the relays locally?
A: Yes, relays can be assigned to monitored parameters to trigger automatically on alarm states.
â–¶ Q: What is the maximum cable length for 1-Wire Sensors on the TCG140?
A: It is recommended to use UTP/FTP cables with a total "daisy-chained" length of up to 30m.
â–¶ Q: How many recipients can receive alerts?
A: The TCG140 can send SMS and email alerts to up to 5 different recipients simultaneously.
â–¶ Q: Does it support encrypted data transfer?
A: Yes, it supports HTTPS Post for XML/JSON data and SMTP with TLS for secure email alerts.

  • The “TCG140-4E” Version: Designed exclusively for deployment within Europe and regions sharing identical telecom architectures. It features a streamlined, cost-effective cellular modem engineered to cover the standard EU 4G LTE and 2G bands.
  • The “TCG140-4G” Version: This is the unrestricted, Global version. It integrates a wide-spectrum international multi-band modem supporting a massive list of regional frequencies (including North American, South American, and Asia-Pacific bands like LTE B12, B13, B25, or B66) alongside standard European networks.
