1-Wire Sensors

This specialised range of sensors utilises the 1-Wire serial communication protocol to deliver cost-effective, digital telemetry directly to compatible Teracom controllers. Operating on a master-slave architecture, 1-Wire technology allows multiple digital sensors to share a single data line. It strikes an ideal balance between the basic on/off signalling of digital switches and the heavy-duty industrial infrastructure of Modbus systems.

The 1-Wire sensor line-up is optimised for simple, multi-point environmental monitoring across localised facilities:

  • Simplified Single-Bus Topology: Multiple 1-Wire sensors can be connected in parallel or daisy-chained along a single data bus line using affordable UTP cabling. This significantly reduces installation complexity and eliminates the need for dedicated wiring runs back to the controller for every single device.
  • Accurate Climate Tracking: The portfolio features factory-calibrated sensors (such as the TST100 and TSH200) designed for stable, accurate readings of temperature and relative humidity. Because the data is digitised at the sensor head, there is no signal degradation over long cable runs, unlike traditional analogue sensors.
  • Targeted Facilities Applications: Ideal for server rooms, food storage lockers, HVAC monitoring, and building management, these sensors provide a scalable solution for mapping environmental zones without the overhead cost of complex automation hardware.

By utilising a shared, low-voltage digital bus, Teracom 1-Wire sensors provide an efficient, plug-and-play approach to scaling up your environmental tracking.

For Teracom units utilising 1-Wire sensors, the network topography is highly sensitive to cable capacitance and signal reflections, requiring a strict linear daisy-chain topology rather than a star or branch layout. To maintain data integrity, Teracom recommends a maximum total bus length of 30 meters using standard UTP cabling, with any branches (stubs) off the main line kept to an absolute minimum (under 1 meter). Deviating from a single continuous line or exceeding this distance creates impedance mismatches, causing data frames to bounce back and corrupt communication, which results in intermittent sensor dropouts.

Designed for rapid, tool-less deployment, these climate and transmitter modules feature dual RJ11 ports for seamless daisy-chaining using standard patch cables. They are optimised for server racks, data centres, and clean office environments. Pair them directly with Ethernet controllers like the TCW241. RJ11 cables are available with tails for connection to terminal units.
