Water Leak Detection Sensor

The TSF400-0 is a specialised, surface-mount liquid water detection sensor housed in a compact, fully potted IP65-rated enclosure (88 x 17 x 46 mm}. Engineered with five machined metal electrodes positioned on its base, the unit operates on a precise resistive conductivity principle, utilising a wide 4.5 to 26VDC operating voltage range and an ultra-efficient 5mA at 12VDC standby current draw. Featuring a built-in dual-colour diagnostic LED (Green for dry, Red for wet) and an integrated 3-meter 3-core connection cable, the sensor provides a direct NPN open-collector output rated strictly up to a maximum of 30VDC @ 100mA sink current.

Applications:

The TSF400-0 is engineered specifically for localised, floor-surface moisture tracking in high-risk zones:

  • HVAC Drip Trays & A/C Plenums: Positioned directly inside or beneath overhead air conditioning drip pans to capture condensate overflows before water breaches structural ceilings or drips into active equipment racks.
  • Server Rooms & Raised Flooring: Placed at the lowest physical points beneath server room floors where plumbing runs or coolant loops present a burst risk.
  • Unattended Facilities: Ideal for remote sub-stations and cellular base stations where localised pooling must be caught instantly before it reaches ground-level power distribution boards.

Technical Specifications

  • Detection Principle: Resistive conductivity via 5 base-mounted metal electrodes (1 central sensing prong, 4 outer grounding prongs).
  • Output Interface: NPN Open-Collector (Open-Drain).
  • Maximum Electrical Limits: 30VDC @ 100mA maximum sink current.
  • Logic Behaviour: Active-LOW on Alarm.
  • Dry State: Open Circuit (High Impedance). Integrated LED glows Green.
  • Wet State: Closed Circuit to Ground (Low Impedance). Integrated LED glows Red.
  • Power Input: 4.5 to 26VDC.
  • Current Draw: 5mA @ 12VDC (Standby).
  • Physical Properties: Fully potted IP65 enclosure (88 x 17 x 46 mm), integrated 3-meter 3-core connection cable.

Unified Environmental Monitoring Ecosystem

While the TSF400-0 handles immediate fluid threats, Teracom’s network controllers allow you to unify this digital data within a comprehensive environmental monitoring matrix. In data centres, commercial facilities, and unmanned telecom hubs, undetected moisture is rarely the only threat to operational continuity. By integrating Teracom’s TCG or TCW controllers with the TSF400-0 floor sensor alongside various climate, electrical, and physical sensors, facilities managers can consolidate multi-vector risk tracking into a single, cohesive dashboard.

Whether monitoring a critical server facility or a remote infrastructure substation, this unified ecosystem ensures that overlapping threats, such as HVAC equipment failures, environmental spikes, power anomalies, or sudden pressure drops, are immediately detected and logged.

The table below outlines how specific sensors integrate with Teracom controllers to safeguard your infrastructure across multiple threat vectors:

Applications

Low-power, point-specific detection for remote cabinets where a full DIN-rail system is overkill.
Mounted directly in AC condensate trays to detect overflows before they damage ceiling tiles or office equipment.
Placed at the lowest point of a server room floor to catch pipe bursts or cooling system failures.
Easy integration into security panels or smart home hubs using the open-drain output for domestic flood alerts.
Internal monitoring for industrial cabinets where internal condensation or external ingress could cause electrical shorts

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ Q: How does the TSF400-0 actually detect water?
A: The sensor operates on a localised resistive conductivity principle. The bottom base of the housing features 5 machined metallic contact electrodes: one central prong and four outer perimeter prongs. The moment pooling water bridges the gap between any of the four outer grounding points and the central sensing electrode, the internal circuit shifts states to trigger an alert.
▶ Q: What type of output interface does the sensor use?
A: It is equipped with an N-channel open-drain digital output (equivalent to an NPN open-collector layout). To protect your connected equipment, this switching line is rated strictly up to a maximum threshold of 30VDC @ 100mA sink current.
▶ Q: Does the sensor require external power to operate?
A: Yes, the internal active monitoring electronics require a continuous power supply. It features a wide input range of 4.5 to 26VDC and is extremely power efficient, drawing a minimal maximum supply current of only 5mA at 12VDC during standard standby.
▶ Q: Is the sensor reusable after a leak event is detected?
A: Yes, completely. The device uses heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant metallic electrodes designed to withstand standing water exposure. Once a leak has been successfully addressed, simply clean and wipe the base electrodes dry with a cloth. The internal logic will automatically reset the output back to its dry status.
▶ Q: What diagnostic tools are built into the unit for field checks?
A: The housing features a built-in dual-color status LED. This provides field technicians with instant visual diagnostics during a site walkthrough: the lens glows Green when power is stable and the floor is dry, and shifts instantly to Red the moment a leak is actively detected.

TSF400-0

TSF400-0

The TSF400-0 is a water leak detection sensor designed for detecting the presence of water on a surface without the need for a separate alarm module. The sensor uses 5 electrodes on the base of the sensor and trips when one of the four outer electrodes connects to the central electrode. This sensor is ideal for monitoring a HVAC drip tray, floors in server rooms or simple domestic or commercial flood alert systems. The output is rated for 30V @ 100mA and can be connected to digital alarm units for providing local or SMS alerts.
