Quick Overview
Omni Instruments supplied sensors for measuring temperature, humidity and air flow inside the main suspension cables of the Forth Road Bridge. The sensors were connected to data acquisition modules which converted the measured values to MODBUS for transmission to a SCADA system.

The purpose of the project was to dehumidify the cables which had been found to have corrosion. This was achieved by blowing very dry air down the pipework which encased the cables. Monitoring the air temperature, humidity and air flow was a vital part of the project to ensure that the correct level of humidity had been achieved before sealing the cables with waterproof elastomer.
