Description
The SP Lite 2 is a simple, low cost pyranometer for routine measurements of solar radiation. The unit has been designed to be used in all weather conditions with minimal maintenance. The SP Lite 2 features a silicon photo-diode detector with a conical diffuser to provide a full 180° field of view and allow rain to run off. The photo-diode does limit the spectral range, 400-1100nm, but this provides a similar spectral response to photovoltaic solar cells.
The SP Lite 2 comes with two sensitivity output options. The basic unit has a sensitivity of about 10µV/W/m², whilst the extra sensitive (EX SENS) unit has a sensitivity range of 60 to 100µV/W/m². The EX SENS unit therefore provides a much larger mV output range and allows a better resolution on a data logger. Both versions are also available with the standard 5m of cable, or 15m of cable. A full list of the SP Lite pyranometers can be found Here.

Two SP-Lite 2’s can easily be bolted back to back to make a simple albedometer with a threaded hold suitable for a screw-in mounting rod for easier mounting. The sensor also includes an integrated bubble level for easy leveling. The SP-LITE 2 can be used with a suitable handheld display logger to provide a suitable test unit for site evaluation on established or proposed solar PV installations.
Field Data Logger Options
The LogBox is a compact, weatherproof data logger engineered for reliable, on-site monitoring of solar installations. This versatile unit offers two distinct versions, each tailored for specific solar energy applications. The LogBox-AA excels at capturing crucial solar irradiance readings from a pyranometer on its first channel, while its second channel can simultaneously monitor temperature, such as the surface temperature of a solar panel. Alternatively, the LogBox-DA is ideal for power generation analysis, with its second channel configured to monitor pulses from a power meter, accurately recording the energy output of a solar panel. Both LogBox models are capable of storing 64,000 readings, capturing minimum, maximum, instant, or average values, making them ideal for a low cost, long-term data collection in challenging outdoor environments.
Meteon is an accurate handheld display unit and data logger suitable for connection to a single pyranometer. Its small size, long battery life and universal input make it an ideal tool for many test and field applications. Meteon comes in a carrying case that also has space for a pyranometer. The Meteon can store up to 3500 readings with min, max and average values per logging period. This logger is ideal for those just needing to easily log from one analogue pyranometer whilst on site.
