N323TR Electronic Thermostat with RTC

The N323TR Electronic Thermostats are designed for refrigeration application with 3 relays and an internal clock. Allowing independent control for the defrost cycle, compressor activation and evaporator, plus programmable defrost cycle that can turn off a compressor at specific times of day. Allowing the higher demand periods to be managed differently from the lower demand periods. This ensure that temperatures are kept without the correct ranges for the products and any ice build ups are cleared when it is safer to do so. It can also help maintain the chillers and lower the overall cost of running the equipment.

N323TR Temperature Controller

  • Description

Description

The Novus N323TR is a high-performance refrigeration controller designed for precise temperature management and optimised defrost cycles in cold rooms and refrigeration cases. It shares the core electronics platform of the Novus Electronic Thermostat family but is uniquely distinguished by an internal Real-Time Clock (RTC), which enables sophisticated weekly and daily scheduling for defrost events. This allows you to set different scheduling Monday to Friday, when doors may be open more often. The N323TR utilises a dual-sensor input system to monitor both ambient environment and evaporator temperatures, ensuring the compressor, defrost module, and fans operate only when necessary for maximum energy efficiency.

The N323TR (available in 12-30VDC and Mains-Powered variants) is designed for professional environments where temperature accuracy and data integrity are critical. While standard controllers operate in isolation, these RS485-equipped models transform your cooling system into a networked asset, allowing for centralised oversight and automated logging.

The Power of RS485 Modbus Option

Integrating the N323TR into your Building Management System (BMS) or SCADA network unlocks professional-grade capabilities:

  • Automated Legislative Compliance: Eliminate manual temperature logs. The RS485 Modbus output allows for continuous data streaming to a central controller, ensuring you have a permanent, tamper-proof record for health inspectors and regulatory audits (HACCP/ISO).
  • Centralised Fleet Management: Monitor and adjust multiple units from a single interface. Identify failing compressors or efficiency drops across your entire facility before they lead to stock loss.
  • Real-Time Alarm Notification: Don’t rely on a technician walking past the unit and seeing the display. Modbus connectivity allows your system to trigger instant remote alerts if temperatures drift outside of set parameters.

Precision Hardware for Optimal Airflow

The N323TR doesn’t just report data; it acts on it. Using Dual NTC Sensors, it manages both the storage environment and the evaporator coil to maximize cooling efficiency.

Four Points of Command

Maximise your system’s uptime with these four specialised control functions:

1. Relay 1: Compressor Control (Main Cooling)

The heavy-duty (SPDT) relay used to maintain the primary set point.

    • Function: It cycles the compressor on and off based on the air temperature sensor (Probe 1).
    • Protection: The N323TR includes programmable “minimum ON” and “minimum OFF” times for this relay to prevent “short-cycling,” which protects the compressor from premature electrical or mechanical failure.

2. Relay 2: Defrost Management

The second (SPST) relay can be dedicated to removing ice buildup from the evaporator coils.

    • Function: Depending on your setup, it can trigger an electric heating element or a hot gas bypass valve to melt frost.
    • Intelligence: Unlike basic timers, the N323TR uses its second sensor (Probe 2) on the evaporator to determine exactly when to stop the defrost cycle. This “Termination Temperature” ensures you don’t waste energy heating the coils longer than necessary.

3. Relay 3: Evaporator Fan Control

The third relay manages the fans that circulate cold air within the unit.

    • Function: It allows for “Fan Delay” logic. For example, after a defrost cycle, the N323TR can keep the fans OFF until the coils have cooled back down.
    • The Benefit: This prevents the unit from blowing warm, moist air onto the food or products immediately after a defrost, maintaining a much more stable internal climate.

4. Real Time Clock: Scheduling Defrost Cycles

The final feature is the N323TR has an Internal clock to allow up to 8 daily defrost cycles.

    • Function: It allows for defrost cycles to run more frequently during periods when a cold room door may not be constantly open and closed.
    • The Benefit: This prevents the stock being exposed to higher temperatures, whilst still ensuring a deep defrost is done during off hours to clear any ice build up.
