MTN/1187 RMS Acceleration Sensor with 4-20mA Output

The MTN/1187 is a general purpose, top-entry acceleration sensor with a 4-20mA output of the RMS acceleration values. Sensors are constructed of stainless steel throughout for a robust sensor suitable for continuous vibration monitoring, even in harsh environments. Electrical connection options include a 3-pin 62GB connector, 2-pin MS connector, integral stainless steel overbraided ETFE or heavy duty PU cable. Mounting options include a quick fit, 1/4″ UNF or various mounting adapters to standard mounting threads. RMS acceleration ranges available are from 0-1 g to 0-20 g. Versions available for hazardous areas and submersible use.

    Description

    RMS Acceleration Transducer

    Acceleration sensors are vibration sensors that provide a conditioned 4-20mA output proportional to the RMS value of the acceleration values of the monitored vibration. The output shows the force in ‘g’, which is equivalent to 9.80665 Newton of force per Kg of mass. RMS Acceleration transducers are ideal for monitoring bearings, gear mesh and other rotational machinery with a high frequency range.

    The RMS (Relative Mean Square) is the square root of the averages of the square values of the AC sine wave of a vibration. The RMS value is therefore relative to the area under the curve of the AC sine wave. This allows the output to be a stable positive reading that is 0.707 times the peak value and is much easier to monitor over time for variations.

    Any change in the normal vibration signal can indicate issues that need immediate attention to prevent damage to equipment. Changes in the vibration can indicate a piece of machinery is working loose from its mounting, fan blade malfunction, bearing failures or other machinery wear. Logging the vibration readings at regular intervals can be useful to highlight the gradual wear of part of a machine. This can also help to provide information on the expected life of machinery in any given application and allow for a suitable replacement to be purchased before a failure and limit the duration of any shutdowns caused by mechanical failures
