The MiniAir Junior anemometers are designed with snap on heads that can be replaced on site without any need for recalibration or adjustment. Replacement snap heads should be of the same original size, flow range and vane material as the original probes. A table is provided on this page to allow you to select the correct replacement snap head for your MiniAir Junior probe.

Plastic snap-on heads for MiniAir Junior vane anemometer

The MiniAir Junior individual probes are designed with a snap head vane anemometer and separate probe handle that contains all the electronics. The standard probes include a synthetic plastic construction snap head with an Aluminium turbine that are suitable for non-aggressive gas flow measurements. For aggressive gas flows, or more aggressive environments, probes for the MiniAir Junior Ex are available with the same plastic snap head but with a Steel vane turbine.

Probes are available in three sizes, Micro, Mini and Macro and with two different flow rate ranges, 0-20m/s and 0-40m/s. All the probes work in the same way to generate a pulse output each time the metal blade passes the probes handle. The frequency of rotation is virtually proportional to the air flow velocity and largely independant of pressure, temperature, density and humidity. The difference sizes of snap heads generate different amounts of pulses for the different flow rates and this means that when the snap head is replaced, the new snap head should be the same size and flow rate as the old one. Failure to match the snap heads to the calibrated probe handle will result in inaccuracies in the output and therefore readings on the MiniAir Junior display.

The plastic snap head versions of the air-flow sensors are all designed as snap-on head versions. The snap-head fixing system makes it very simple to fit a new snap head impeller to the flow probe: this saves costly non-productive time and in the event of damage to the snap-head, having a replacement snap head allows you to have probes back in service in a matter of seconds by simply changing the snap-head. A defective measuring head can simply be replaced by a new snap-on head. The old snap head should be pulled directly from the handle and the replacement head pushed directly on to the handle. The original calibration is retained and no adjustments should be required.

A selection of specific snap-on heads are available in the following two versions:

Snap Head Principle

  • Head part: plastic, vane: Aluminium / Micro, Mini, Macro
  • Head part: plastic, vane: Steel / Mini, Macro, only explosion-protected version

A snap-on head can only be replaced by a snap-on head of the same size for the same model, i.e. Micro for Micro, Mini for Mini and Macro for Macro. The vane material must also be the same (Aluminium or Steel). Trying to use the wrong MiniAirJunior snap-on head, will cause the probe to lose its accuracy. Please refer to the table below to ensure the snap head matches your original probe.
