High-Pressure Boreholes & Deep Extraction

Deep groundwater extraction, artesian monitoring, and mine dewatering demand a transmitter that handles brutal physical environments. At installation depths down to 100 meters, hydrostatic pressures approach a punishing 10 Bar, while standard-sized level probes routinely jam against power cables or tight well casings.

The Novus WL320 Deep-Range series is engineered explicitly to survive these harsh deep-well mechanics. Boasting a compact 19 mm slim profile, it glides effortlessly down narrow structural casings and past deep submersible pump couplings without catching. Built with thick, reinforced 316L Stainless Steel, its sensor cell eliminates deformation and calibration drift under immense, sustained deep-well pressures.

WL320 Advantages for Deep Extraction

  • Anti-Jam Design: Deep wells require considerable drop hardware. The 19mm diameter guarantees clear passage past heavy pump suspension lines and tight electrical bundles where bulkier alternatives get stuck.

  • Kevlar-Reinforced Suspension: Hanging up to 100 metres of cable creates immense vertical tension. The WL320 heavy-duty cable features an internal Kevlar core, preventing cable stretch from distorting your depth calibrations over time.

  • Geothermal & Mineral Resistance: Pure 316L stainless steel provides an elite armor layer against hot, sulfur-heavy, brackish, or highly mineralized deep-aquifer waters that quickly corrode standard steels.

Applications

Reaching depths over 25 meters where the 19 mm diameter is mandatory to bypass tight pump couplings without wedging or breaking.
Slid down micro-drilled exploration holes to detect and chart deep sub-surface water tables ahead of excavation.
Deep vertical extraction lines where high hydrostatic pressures and dissolved minerals demand complete SS316L build integrity.
Deep-hanging ballast or cooling intake tubes subjected to heavy sea currents and aggressive marine corrosion.

Frequently Asked Questions

â–¶ Q: Why is the WL320 ideal for deep artesian wells?
A: Its slim 19mm profile prevents the sensor from jamming against tight pump couplings down the borehole.
â–¶ Q: Will the weight of a 50m cable pull or snap the transmitter?
A: No. The rugged polyurethane (PUR) cable features an internal Kevlar strain-relief wire to support the hanging weight safely.
â–¶ Q: Is barometric compensation still required at depths over 25m?
A: Yes. Even at high pressures, surface weather shifts alter baseline accuracy. A vented compensation box must be used.
â–¶ Q: Can I extend the sensor cable myself if my well is deeper than expected?
A: Best way to extend the cable is to use the enclosure and fit standard cable after the vented enclosure.
â–¶ Q: How do I log and track water table data over long periods?
A: Connect the sensor to a smart telemetry data logger like the Novus LogBox Connect for remote cloud tracking.
â–¶ Q: How do I read the 4-20 mA data over a 100m run?
A: Connect it directly to a digital display like the Novus N1540 or feed it into a PLC; current loops experience zero signal loss over this distance.

The sensors listed below all come with short vented cable. Longer cables can be achieve being using the compensation box and adding standard cable.

Barometric Compensation Box

Accurate hydrostatic measurement relies entirely on balancing the sensor against local atmospheric pressure changes via an internal cable vent tube. To prevent moisture, humidity, and dirt from entering this delicate tube and damaging your transmitter, we highly recommend installing a specialised Vented Compensation Box. This enclosure allows the sensor to breathe freely while utilising a replaceable desiccant to seal out the elements, ensuring long-term system accuracy and preventing premature sensor failure.

ENCL-WMT-EXSML-DEPTH

ENCL-WMT-EXSML-DEPTH

Small ABS Compensation Box. Provides a venting point for a depth sensor close to the monitoring location, whilst offering a connection for a longer cable back to monitoring equipment. Enclosure is IP67 rated to prevent water ingress but not air tight.
