The integration of solid-state precipitation tech into the Gill Instruments Weather Station ecosystem removes the traditional mechanical weaknesses of water collection. The legacy MaxiMet Optical Rain Gauge (built into models like the GMX400) provides low-maintenance indication by detecting the size and quantity of raindrops hitting its integrated sensor surface. However, the introduction of the standalone TruMet PW100 Infrared Optical Rain Gauge—and its fully integrated weather station counterpart, the MaxiMet GMX603—redefines this space. Instead of relying on physical surface contact, the TruMet system projects an active infrared LED beam across an open sensing path. As droplets cut through the beam, the sensor analyzes both droplet volume and velocity to track real-time intensity and accumulation totals. This design prevents false counts caused by debris, wind rocking, or surface contamination

TruMet PW100 is an infrared optical rain gauge that delivers a modern, low-maintenance alternative to tipping buckets. It delivers accurate rainfall data as a standalone unit or when combined with a MetConnect or MaxiMet weather station, including the fully integrated MaxiMet GMX603. With no moving parts, TruMet PW100 is a plug-and-play solution designed to replicate the output of a conventional tipping bucket, without the burden of maintenance or re-calibration. Rainfall measurement no longer need to rely on 50-year-old mechanics.
The MaxiMet GMX240 is an ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensor with an optical rain sensor and electronic compass. This enables the unit to provide apparent wind measurements, average speed and direction together with WMO averages and gust data is also provided. The optional GPS also provide compensated wind speed and direction readings. The optical rain sensor provides a good indication of rainfall levels, where low maintenance is required, or space is limited. The data is output in serial formats - RS232, RS485. SDI12, NMEA and MODBUS.
The MaxiMet GMX400 is a combined instrument mounted inside three double louvered, naturally aspirated radiation shields for the measurement of ambient temperature, humidity and pressure, and precipitation, with no moving parts. The results are high performance across each measurement over long periods of time. The data is output in serial formats - RS232, RS485. SDI12, NMEA and MODBUS.
