The WindSonic range consists of high quality, multi-purpose anemometers that are suitable for most applications. Every WindSonic uses true 2-axis ultrasonic time-of-flight technology to deliver 0–360° wind speed and direction data with no dead bands. The WindSonic uses a reflector design, with the transducers on the main body and reflecting the sensors off the top section. The three version difference lies entirely in material composition, threshold limits, and conditional protection:
WindSonic (Standard): The baseline economic option that can be installed and left in site for years without any issues. Housed in a lightweight, UV-stabilised Luran polycarbonate shell, it measures wind speeds from 0 to 60 m/s. It is ideal for benign outdoor monitoring, building automation, and standard meteorological stations.
WindSonic 75: Inherits the same polycarbonate build and footprint as the standard model but features optimised internal sensors to extend the upper measurement threshold to 0 to 75 m/s (168 mph) for high-velocity storm tracking.
WindSonic M: Engineered for industrial harshness. It replaces the plastic housing with an impact-resistant, hard-anodised aluminum alloy body (rated to UL2218 Class 1). Crucially, the ‘M’ introduces an optional internal de-icing heating system, allowing operation down to -40°C.
The Windsonic 60 Ultrasonic anemometer provides wind speed and direction in the range of 0-60m/s. Data can be provided in a single serial stream or two analogue outputs. The WindSonic unit is a robust, lightweight (0.5kg) sensor with a corrosion-free polycarbonate blend housing. The WindSonic 60 is suitable for use in harsh marine environments and uses an ultrasonic measurement principle that will avoid the problems caused by the fragility of cups and propellers. Units are supplied with mating connector and WindCom software for logging data directly from the serial output.
The Windsonic75 Ultrasonic anemometer provides wind speed and direction in the range of 0-75m/s. Readings can be provided as an RS232, RS422, or RS485 Serial or two analogue outputs. The Windsonic M Ultrasonic anemometer provides wind speed and direction in the range of 0-60m/s. The WindSonic M is a durable, hard-anodised aluminium alloy housing with an optional heating system allowing for operations down to -40°C. Omni Instruments provides bespoke mounting solutions tailored for the WindSonic range. We manufacture dedicated, precision-fit mounts designed specifically to mate the WindSonic directly to the top of our heavy-duty M-TPB meteorological tripod. This installation package features an engineered base piece that protects the instrument cable at its most vulnerable point—safeguarding the exit radius from the mounting pole against wind-shear friction and environmental wear. We can also provide guy wires and stake kits to keep the whole tripod stable during even the harshest storms. Click the link for the full range M-TPB Weather Station Tripod
