Bi-Directional Load Cells

Bi-directional (or universal) load cells are unique because they are designed to accurately measure force along a single axis in two opposing directions: both tension (pulling) and compression (pushing). This dual-sensing ability eliminates the need for two separate, single-direction load cells, simplifying system design and installation. This capability makes them ideal for sensing the complete force profile in applications like:

  • Measuring the in-line forces applied to cables, rods, or bolts, where the force might switch from a pulling (tension) load to a relaxing or pushing (compression) load.
  • Integrating directly into mechanical linkages or actuators to monitor the dynamic forces of cyclic testing.
