GL2000 MidiLogger

The Graphtec GL2000 is an ultra-rugged, 4-channel high-voltage data logger specifically engineered for demanding electrical utility, power supply, and heavy machinery testing. With a CAT III 600V safety rating, this instrument can safely measure voltages up to 1000 V DC and 1000 Vrms, removing the need for costly external differential voltage probes. Operating at high simultaneous sampling speeds up to 1 MS/s, it captures voltage spikes, power line drops, and thermal behaviour in real-time.

Unlike the 8-channel GL980, the GL2000 features beefed-up, finger-safe BNC and screw-terminal isolation designed to handle high energy grids. It provides industrial engineers with an all-in-one safety solution for capturing AC power line fluctuations alongside direct temperature measurements without sacrificing resolution or speed.

Features

  • CAT III 600V Safety Rating: Fully compliant with global high-voltage safety standards, allowing direct connection to industrial power grids.
  • 1000 V DC / Vrms Input Capacity: Eliminates the bulk and cost of active high-voltage attenuators when testing high-voltage batteries and power lines.
  • True RMS Calculation Mode: Features built-in hardware math to calculate real-time True RMS values for AC waveforms, including distorted waves and harmonics.
  • Dedicated Channel A/D Converters: Equipped with 4 separate 16-bit A/D converters to ensure zero sampling skew or channel speed degradation.
  • Dual-Media External Recording: Features dual slots supporting both high-capacity SDHC memory cards and USB flash drives for convenient field backups and hot-swaps.

Technical Specifications

Applications

Safely measuring voltage fluctuations and True RMS values in building power circuits using the CAT III 600V safety standard.
High-speed 1µs sampling for analysing the performance of inverters in air conditioners, motors, and electric vehicle components.
Simultaneous monitoring of high-voltage output and temperature (thermocouple) to test efficiency and safety in industrial water heaters and generators.
Tracking thermal insulation performance and environmental conditions (temperature/humidity) in housing and commercial climate systems.
Monitoring 4-20mA signals (via scaling) and high-speed logic/pulse signals for manufacturing line optimisation and quality control.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ Q: What makes the GL2000 safe for direct high-voltage power-line measurements?
A: The GL2000 is fully rated to CAT III 600 V and CAT II 1000 V safety standards. It features heavily reinforced input terminals and galvanic isolation, allowing you to connect directly to industrial 3-phase power grids and high-voltage EV battery packs up to 1000 V DC or 1000 Vrms without using expensive external differential probes.
▶ Q: How does the True RMS calculation mode work on the GL2000?
A: Unlike standard loggers that only capture instantaneous values, the GL2000 features built-in hardware maths engine that compute and log True RMS values in real time. This operates over a frequency response range of 20 Hz to 10 kHz, making it perfect for monitoring fluctuating AC mains, electrical noise, harmonics, and complex, non-sinusoidal waveforms.
▶ Q: Can I hot-swap the external storage media during recording on the GL2000?
A: Yes, but only for slower sampling runs. If you are logging data directly to an SD card or USB flash drive at a sampling interval of 1 ms or slower, you can swap the media without stopping the measurement. While the storage is removed, the logger temporarily buffers the incoming data to its internal memory and writes it to the new card once inserted.
▶ Q: What thermocouple types are supported by the GL2000 for thermal monitoring?
A: The GL2000's screw terminals can directly measure temperatures using K, J, E, T, R, S, B, N, and W (WRe5-26) type thermocouples. This allows you to log fast high-voltage electrical anomalies on the BNC connectors while simultaneously logging thermal dissipation and heat signatures on the adjacent screw terminals. High-Speed Logging FAQ: Common to Both Models
▶ Q: Why can't I record high-speed data (faster than 1 ms) directly to my SD card or USB drive?
A: Standard external flash media (SD cards and USB drives) cannot reliably keep up with the extreme, continuous write speeds required for sub-millisecond logging.
