Description
The XI279C is a large 18mm square heat flux sensor and the ‘Gold Standard’ for performing reliable measurements, ensuring readings aren’t affected by sub-surface irregularities. In building science, a single mortar joint or a wall stud could skew the data, as could an air pocket inside thermal insulation. Care should also be taken during installation to ensure the full 18mm square is flat to the surface, as thermal air gaps can result in massive under-reading of the heat flux. Available with 1m lead and TEG connector for connection to a DLOG data logger for standalone heat flux monitoring.
Features
- Ultra-high resolution of thermal energies and temperature differences.
- Low invasiveness and thickness.
- Models with connector compatible with all gSKIN®DLOG Data Loggers.
- All sensors with conductive heat flux calibration cohering to ISO 8301.
- Applications: R&D, thermal optimization, energy efficiency, industrial monitoring of thermal properties.
Applications
- In-Situ Building Science (R-Value Measurement) – Measuring heat loss through insulation, brickwork, or concrete. The large 18mm footprint covers enough material to provide a representative average of the heat flowing through the building envelope.
- Building Physics & Energy Auditing – Measuring the U-value of wall assemblies, windows, or insulation layers in situ.
- Solar Energy Harvesting & Photovoltaics – Efficiency testing of solar thermal collectors or PV panel backside cooling. When testing solar panels (PV modules), engineers need to track how much incident energy is converted to heat versus electricity.
- Large-Scale Industrial Pipes & HVAC – For monitoring “District Heating” systems or large industrial steam pipes. Assessing the degradation of pipe insulation over time.
