TruMet PW100 is an infrared optical rain gauge that delivers a modern, low-maintenance alternative to tipping buckets. It delivers accurate rainfall data as a standalone unit or when combined with a MetConnect or MaxiMet weather station, including the fully integrated MaxiMet GMX603. With no moving parts, TruMet PW100 is a plug-and-play solution designed to replicate the output of a conventional tipping bucket, without the burden of maintenance or re-calibration. Rainfall measurement no longer need to rely on 50-year-old mechanics.

Description

The TruMet PW100 is an brand new, ultra-reliable, low-maintenance alternative to traditional tipping bucket rain gauges. It uses the latest optical technology to deliver accurate rainfall data as a standalone unit or when combined with one of the MetConnect or MaxiMet weather station ranges. With no moving parts, TruMet PW100 is a plug-and-play solution designed to replicate the output of a conventional tipping bucket, without the burden of maintenance or re-calibration. The output is a pulse at 0.1mm per tip, which when connected with the weather station allows this to be given as a simple Rain/No Rain, intensity or accumulated totals.

Omni Instruments were involved in the testing stage before the launch and had a unit under test for 6 months. Testing the units with grass being cut nearby, falling leaves in Autumn. Readings were more reliable than tipping buckets that were blocked by grass clipping, or leaves and needing cleaned. The TruMet PW100 also didn’t pick up false rain caused by strong winds rocking an unsecured tipping bucket.

When used with a Maximet or MetConnect weather station, the pulse readings can be converted as follows:-

Precipitation Total.
Outputs Precipitation (Rain) Total reading, this is a one minute updated accumulated rain reading output once per second (with default output rate setting at 1Hz).
Is set to zero on MaxiMet power up.
Is set to zero when the clock reads 23:59:59 to 00 (midnight) and is the default setting.
For continuous measurement turn off Auto-reset of Total Precipitation using MetSet. Result e.g. 00000.4 (millimetres default).

Precipitation Intensity.
Outputs Precipitation (Rain) Intensity.
It is the sum of the last sixty lots of 1 minute accumulated Rain data. A new sum measurement is generated every minute.
It will be set to zero on MaxiMet power up.
Result e.g. 000.2 (millimetres default).

Precipitation Status.
Outputs Precipitation (Rain) Status as N or Y (No or Yes).
Changes N to Y when total precipitation is incremented.
Changes Y to N when total precipitation has not incremented in the last 60 seconds.
Result e.g. N (or Y).
