PosiTector Inspection Kits

PosiTector Inspection Kits

PosiTector Inspection Kits Contain a PosiTector Meter Body (Standard or Advanced) and 3 Probes. The 3 probes are: A DPM probe for monitoring environmental conditions, ensuring optimal temperature and humidity conditions before, during and afer painting for long-term performance of coating on metals; A SPG probe to measuring the surface profile for peaks and valleys, ensuring coatings adhere to surfaces correctly and will be thick enough on peaks to prevent rusting; and A 6000 coating thickness probe to measure the final coating thicknesses. Inspection kits come in a hard sheel carrying case to hold everything in.

Coating Thickness – 6000 Probe

Coating thickness, paint thickness, or dry film thickness (DFT) is an important variable that plays a role in product quality, process control, and cost control. Measurement of film thickness can be accomplished by selecting the best mil gage for the particular application.

Regular film thickness measurement helps control material costs, manage application efficiency, maintain finish quality, and ensure compliance with contract specifications. Paint manufacturers recommend target ranges to achieve optimum performance characteristics and clients expect these parameters to be met

6000 Probes use magnetic and eddy current principles to measure paint thickness on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals

Environmental Monitoring – DPM Probe

The environmental conditions during pre-treatment and application of a coating system are major factors affecting the long-term performance of coatings on steel structures. Dew Point Meters can be used to monitor environmental conditions before, during, and after painting. Ideal for surface preparation as required by ISO 8502-4, an electronic Dew Point Meter determines the likelihood of dew forming on structures which are being painted.

DPM Probe will monitoring the following parameters

  • Relative Humidity
  • Air Temperature
  • Surface Temperature
  • Dew Point Temperature
  • Wet Bulb Temperature (Advanced Model Only)

Standard Model

  • Storage of 2,500 datasets Stored readings can be viewed or downloaded.

  • Auto Log Mode runs unattended on batteries for up to 8 months or continuously via USB
  • Readings can be uploaded to PosiSoft.net or FTP Server using WiFi.
  • Automatically grouping readings into Daily, Weekly or Monthly Readings
  • Visible and Audible warnings, plus email alerts when connected to WiFi
  • Bluetooth 4.0 Technology. Can transfer data to Mobile device or Bluetooth Printer.

Surface Profile – SPG Probe

Steel is often abrasive-blast cleaned or otherwise roughened prior to painting. The peak-to-valley height of the resultant “surface profile” is a critical and determining factor in the performance of applied paint and other protective coatings. A surface profile height that is too low may reduce coating bond strength (adhesion). Too high and the peaks may receive insufficient coverage leading to premature rusting, and often require additional paint (and labour costs to apply it) to cover the anchor profile.

Emerging research over the past 15 years has shown surface profile height is not the only important parameter. Peak density (also known as peak count), the number of peaks in the surface profile per unit area, has been shown to be a strong determinant of coating adhesion and resistance to corrosion. In fact, studies have found that peak density may be a better predictor of coating performance than peak-to-valley height.

Surface profile height can also be relevant for other industries, as a way to quantify the profile height of non-skid surfaces, and to evaluate the Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) prior to applying coatings on concrete.

SPG Probes use a digital depth micrometer fitted with a fine pointed probe to measure and record peak-to-valley surface profile heights in preparation for the application of coatings.

  • Live graphing of measurement data
  • WiFi allows synchronisation with PosiSoft.net for software updates
