Description
The N323R Electronic Thermostats include three control relays and are designed to measure, indicate and control temperature in many different systems by controlling the relays for different functions.
1. Relay 1: Compressor Control (Main Cooling)
The SPDT relay is the heavy-duty relay used to maintain the primary set point.
- Function: It cycles the compressor on and off based on the air temperature sensor (Probe 1).
- Protection: The N323R includes programmable “minimum ON” and “minimum OFF” times for this relay to prevent “short-cycling,” which protects the compressor from premature electrical or mechanical failure.
2. Relay 2: Defrost Management
The first SPST relay is dedicated to removing ice build-up from the evaporator coils.
- Function: Depending on your setup, it can trigger an electric heating element or a hot gas bypass valve to melt frost.
- Intelligence: Unlike basic timers, the N323R uses its second sensor (Probe 2) on the evaporator to determine exactly when to stop the defrost cycle. This “Termination Temperature” ensures you don’t waste energy heating the coils longer than necessary.
3. Relay 3: Evaporator Fan Control
The second SPST relay manages the fans that circulate cold air within the unit.
- Function: It allows for “Fan Delay” logic. For example, after a defrost cycle, the N323R can keep the fans OFF until the coils have cooled back down.
- The Benefit: This prevents the unit from blowing warm, moist air onto the food or products immediately after a defrost, maintaining a much more stable internal climate.
