The GENII wireless environmental monitoring system is able to cover a wide range of environmental parameters. Transmitters are available for direct connections to weather stations, heat flux sensors, thermocouples, light sensor, depth sensors, etc and any other sensors with standard mV, V or mA outputs. A system can be customised to your requirements, with battery or externally powered transmitters to cover virtually any type of environmental condition and can be linked up to a GEN II Energy Monitoring System to cover all your monitoring in one complete system. Up to 250 channels can be sent back to a single receiver logger unit over a 2-3Km range, with repeaters available to extend this range and deal with more difficult environments. The receiver logger will read the data from only the desired transmitters in range and multiple systems can be installed in one location to provide all the parameters into an easy to use format for data analysis.
The Wireless Energy/Environmental Monitoring System
The GEN II wireless data logging system combines exceptional performance and stylish products ideally suited for a wide range of applications and installations. The system is also ideal for short and long term projects. Transmitters are easily installed, can be placed anywhere and easily redeployed as necessary.
Standard sensors types include RH, temperature, CO2, light and UV, which are ideal for environmental monitoring. In addition to this, temperature sensors are available which use thermistor, thermocouple or PT100 and package the physical sensor for immersion, intimate surface contact or air temperature. The GEN II system can also integrated seamlessly with energy meters (electrical, gas etc.) and provide these readings, along with environmental parameters such as wind speed, wind direction, precipitation, air pressure, water depth, tilt and linear displacement back to a single logging unit. Most transmitters are battery operated using off the shelf batteries providing more than 2 years operation.
The receiver unit can provide the data directly to a PC, to Ethernet or via a GSM/GPRS modem. Each receiver units can handle up to 250 channels over 125 transmitter with an internal memory for 250,000 readings (options available for up to 2 million readings) and an internal battery provides back up for power failures. Multiple receiver units can be used in the same location and each unit can log the readings from specific transmitters, whilst ignoring others.
The GENII transmitters connect to the receiver units by means of a 434MHz radio link. The 434MHz UHF band is licence exempt in most countries, making this a very cost effective and practical alternative to wired or cabled-in systems. Sensors and their associated radio transmitters are simply placed or permanently fitted as required once a radio connection has been established. Since no cables are used there is a great deal of freedom to change the placing of sensors or move the complete system to another site, again without disruption or significant cost.
Radio lends itself ideally to installations where communications across a river, road or even just a large site need to be established quickly and effectively. Using high specification radio means a range of several kilometers, if line of sight reducing to several hundred meters in difficult environments (such as a brick or stone building or one containing considerable steel work).
