Description
The dataTaker DT82I is designed as the compact, cost-effective, lower-channel-count sibling to the DT80. The “I” stands for Industrial, meaning it includes dedicated hardware interfaces tailored for factory floor monitoring, SCADA systems, and “smart” industrial sensors. Despite being scaled down, it retains the advanced programming engine, rugged Aluminium housing, and 18-bit precision of the larger models but shrinks the hardware footprint and scaling capability to fit smaller, self-contained applications.
- Stripped-Back Analogue Footprint
While the DT80 handles up to 15 inputs, the DT82I features a simplified terminal arrangement. Using the same dual-channel isolation technology, its analogue capabilities are split into:
- Up to 6 common-referenced (single-ended) inputs.
- Up to 4 isolated differential (2-wire) inputs.
- Up to 2 isolated differential (3-wire or 4-wire) inputs.
Crucial Difference: Unlike the DT80 and DT85, the DT82I does not support the CEM20 channel expansion module. It is strictly a standalone logger. If you buy the DT82I, expansion can still achieve unit suitable Modbus, or other serial, devices. It retains the identical universal input capabilities, allowing you to directly wire and scale thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors, 4-20mA current loops, strain gauges, and DC voltages (up to ±50V).
- Dedicated Industrial & “Smart” Interfaces
Where the DT82I makes up for its fewer analogue terminals is in its industrial connectivity:
- Dedicated Programmable Analogue Output: It features an isolated 16-bit Digital-to-Analogue Converter (DAC) capable of outputting a controlled 0-10V voltage or a 0-24mA current signal. This allows the logger to generate feedback loops or act as a controller for external industrial equipment.
- Serial Sensor Hub: It features a highly flexible serial port supporting RS232, RS422, and RS485 networks simultaneously. This is optimised for pulling data streams directly from smart industrial devices, GPS units, or gas analysers via raw ASCII or Modbus protocols.
- Modbus Integration: It acts natively as a Modbus Master or Slave, making it incredibly easy to map directly into an existing factory SCADA or PLC network.
Omni Instruments are experts are building Modbus networks and supply many sensors, modules and instrumentations that can greatly expand the DT82I inputs from the limited 2 to 6 analogue inputs on the device itself.
- Digital Channels & Logic Control
- Digital Terminals: Features 8 bi-directional digital channels that can track on/off states, trigger state alarms, or act as open-drain control switches.
- High-Speed Counters: Includes 4 dedicated high-speed counter inputs (and 2 phase encoder inputs) capable of logging pulse frequencies up to 25 kHz, ideal for flow meters or machinery shaft tracking.
- Communications & Data Management
- Web-Based dEX 2.0: Just like the rest of the dataTaker line, it hosts its own internal web server. There is no special software to install; configuration, calibration, and live dashboard building are handled via an standard web browser over Ethernet or USB.
- Memory & Offloading: Holds up to 10 million data points in its 128MB internal non-volatile memory. It includes a standard USB host port on the chassis for walk-up data harvesting via a standard flash drive.
- Remote Telemetry: It supports FTP and email. You can configure the logger to automatically email data logs nightly or upload files straight to a secure network server upon an alarm event.
- Power & Physical Resilience
- Internal Battery Included: The DT82I comes equipped with an internal 6V, 1.2Ah rechargeable lead-acid backup battery, whereas the environmental equivalent (the DT82E) relies entirely on external power.
- Wide Operating Range: It is fully operational from -45°C to 70°C, housed in a heavy-duty IP54-rated casing built to tolerate dust and light spray in rugged environments.
