Description
AV-EP-200 Multi-point Air Velocity is a 10 x 24mm probe with length 200mm. They are used to ensure that recommended flow rates for public buildings and industrial plant are achieved and maintained. Using a PA-267, PA-60-x, PA-65-x or PA-699 Air Differential Pressure Sensor of an appropriate range allow the flow rate to be monitored in real-time.
Features
- Push-on connectors to suit 6mm i/d PVC tubing
- Neoprene rubber gaskets duct seals included
- Averages across the duct
- Easy installation
- Fully compatible with PA-267, PA-60-x, PA-65-x or PA-699 DP pressure transmitters
To install AV-EP probes into a duct, a hole is drilled into the duct wall allowing the probe to be inserted perpendicular to the airflow with its mounting flange sealed tightly using the provided neoprene gasket. The probe features upstream-facing total pressure ports that measure total pressure (Pt) and downstream/side-facing static pressure ports that record static pressure (Ps). These signals are piped to high and low-pressure ports on a differential pressure sensor, which calculates the velocity (dynamic) pressure (Pv) using the relation:
The sensor converts this dynamic pressure into air velocity (v) using the standard fluid mechanics equation based on Bernoulli’s principle:
where rho represents the air density (typically assumed as 1.2 kg/m³ at standard temperature and pressure). Datasheets present this relationship in reference lookup tables (e.g., 1 Pa} approx 1.29 m/s or 25 Pa approx 6.45 m/s, demonstrating that air velocity is directly proportional to the square root of the measured differential dynamic pressure.
