Description

Chlorine (Cl2) is a highly reactive, greenish-yellow gas with a distinct, pungent, and irritating odour, often described as bleach-like. It is a highly toxic gas and a strong oxidising agent, making it dangerous to inhale or come into contact with.

Key Properties

  • Colour: Greenish-yellow.
  • Odour: Pungent, bleach-like, and highly irritating. Its odour can be detected at very low concentrations, providing a warning sign.
  • Toxicity: Highly toxic, causing severe irritation and damage to the respiratory system, eyes, and skin.
  • Density: Approximately 2.5 times heavier than air, meaning it tends to settle in low-lying areas, trenches, and confined spaces.
  • Reactivity: Highly reactive; it readily combines with many elements and compounds, including water, to form corrosive acids.

The table above reflects the percentage response provided by the sensor (top row) when exposed to a known concentration of the target gas (column 1).
The numbers were measured under these environmental conditions: 20 °C (68 °F), 50% RH and 1 atm.
The specified cross-interference numbers apply to new sensors only and may vary with time as well as from sensor to sensor.
“-” means no data available.
This table is given as a reference only and is subject to change.

MX6 Replacement Sensor Cells

The MX6 gas detectors include field replaceable, plug-in sensors. The user can replace any sensor in the field and have the instrument in service after performing a simple field calibration. Up to 5 sensor can be installed, each in one or more specific location.
