Industrial Laser Level Sensor

The Novus TL400-I is an industrial-grade, non-contact level transmitter utilizing advanced Time-of-Flight (ToF) laser technology. Engineered specifically for complex process automation, plant factory floors, and static storage vessels, this sensor eliminates the mechanical wear-and-tear vulnerabilities of traditional float switches. By delivering a highly accurate laser beam, it provides real-time, millimeter-precise tracking of fluid depths without ever contacting the substance itself.

Core Features & Technical Breakdown

  • Industry-Standard 4-20 mA Output: Designed to seamlessly drop into existing factory environments. The current-loop output ensures absolute immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by nearby Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), heavy machinery, and high-voltage conduits. Signal attenuation over long-distance cable runs is entirely eliminated.

  • M12 Connectivity: Equipped with an integrated 150 mm pigtail cable terminated with a ruggedised, 4-pin male M12 threaded connector. This ensures an IP67-rated, dust-tight, and moisture-resistant connection standard across universal industrial networks.

  • Wide-Range Input Power: Supports a wide supply voltage range from 8 to 33 Vdc, making it native-ready for standard 24 Vdc industrial power distribution panels.

  • Wireless Configuration: Features integrated Bluetooth connectivity. Field technicians can safely configure, calibrate, and map complex tank geometries (including dead zones and custom volume curves) from the factory floor using the mobile or desktop SigNow software app, without breaking the physical electrical seal.

  • Physical Architecture: Housed in a chemical-resistant casing featuring a standard SAE 5-bolt mounting pattern and included NBR sealing gasket for leak-proof top-tank installation.

M12 Pinout Configuration

  • Pin 1 (Brown): Power Supply 8 to 33 vDC

  • Pin 2 (White): Analogue Output (4-20 mA Current Loop)

  • Pin 3 (Blue): Ground / Power Return (0 V)

  • Pin 4 (Black): Not Connected (Reserved/NC)

SigNow PC – Software for Sensors and Transmitters Configuration

The SigNow Software makes it possible to quickly and easily configure NOVUS transmitters. The software allows you to save the configuration to a file to be used as a backup or to be sent to other devices. It has a diagnostic function to check if the equipment is reading the process variable correctly.

SigNow Mobile – App for Sensors and Transmitters Configuration

The SigNow Mobile application makes it possible to quickly and easily configure NOVUS transmitters using the Bluetooth on your device. The app allows you to do the same save the configuration, send to other devices, and has the same diagnostic functions. The application allows the mobile device itself to power the device to be configured, through a USB OTG adapter, facilitating use in the field.

Applications

Non-contact measurement prevents sensor corrosion or contamination when tracking chemical additives, acids, or treated water bases.
Ideal for real-time inventory tracking of lubricants, industrial oils, and liquid raw materials in high-capacity warehouse silos.
Operates reliably above turbulent, debris-heavy liquids where traditional mechanical float valves routinely jam or fail.
Measures storage vessel levels externally through top-ports, maintaining process isolation from the media.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ Q: Can the 4-20 mA loop run over long distances?
A: Yes. Unlike voltage-based sensors that suffer from voltage drops over distance, the TL400-I regulates current. The 4-20 mA signal can travel hundreds of meters across a factory floor directly to your PLC analogue input card without any signal degradation or loss of accuracy.
▶ Q: Does the laser beam require a perfectly flat liquid surface to work?
A: No. The internal processing of the TL400-I features configurable dynamic software filtering. This allows the sensor to average out ripples, surface agitation, or small waves inside the tank to deliver a smooth, stable level reading to your SCADA/PLC system.
▶ Q: Is a specialised programming console required to calibrate the empty and full points?
A: No hardware programmer is needed. The sensor contains a secure Bluetooth radio. You can configure the upper and lower measurement limits, tank heights, and response filtering metrics wirelessly using a smartphone or laptop via the free Novus SigNow app.
▶ Q: Will the laser sensor work if there is steam or heavy condensation inside the tank?
A: While the ToF laser is highly reliable, extreme steam or dense vapor can scatter light beams. For heavily steaming chemical processes, we recommend setting a higher dampening filter in the SigNow app or checking for clear line-of-sight clearance.
