Description
The MiniAir Junior Ex is a portable vane anemometer designed with an explosion protected housing for use in hazardous area air flow monitoring applications. The MiniAir Junior is a single channel handheld measuring instrument using a selection of detachable vane anemometers to monitor air flows. The vane anemometers are available in three different sizes: Micro; Mini; and Macro, with two different flow ranges available for each: 0-20ms; and 0-40m/s.
Features
- Suitable for use with all MiniAir JuniorEx flow sensors.
- Probe and measuring range are automatically recognised by the indicator unit.
- 4 Digit LCD display
- Instantaneous value measurements
- Minimum, Maximum and Averare values continuously selectable
- 2 Average value measurement intervals: Fast = 6 Secs, Slow = 22 Secs.
- Easy operation by key pad
When the MiniAir Junior display unit is initially powered up, it will perform a functional test lasting about 2 seconds. During this test, the display will determine which probe is connected to the display. The probe is automatically recognised by the start-up resistance of the particular vane type and the display will show the corresponding code for probe. The first two digits indicate the probe head diameter, the last two digits the full-scale reading in m/s.
Probe Size | Probe Range | Displayed Code |
Micro | 20m/s | 15.20 |
40m/s | 15.40 | |
Mini | 20m/s | 22.20 |
40m/s | 22.40 | |
Macro | 20m/s | 80.40 |
40m/s | 80.40 |
Once the functional test is completed, the instrument will measure continuously the 2-second averages and indicates them every 0.5 seconds.
Pressing the Fast or Slow key changes the averaging to 6 or 22 seconds respectively. Cancellation of the extreme values: switch the instrument off and then on again and the averaging will return to the 2-second averaging after the functional test procedure.
Pressing the Max/Min key changes the readings to show the extreme values for the flow over the last measuring interval (2, 6 or 22 seconds). After each new measurement, the measuring memory is overwritten for the next interval. Pressing the Flow key will return the readings to the mean values.

The internal battery is replaceable and should be replaced when the display shows ‘BATT’. The unit should be removed from the hazardous area to a safe area to replace the battery and a replacement battery needs to be one that is approved in the MiniAir Junior EX Certification to retain the ATEX certification. The use of any other battery would invalidate the certification and the unit should not be retaken back into the Hazardous Area. The battery compartment has to be resealed and secured with the special screw after changing battery. A Matching screwdriver is supplied with each new display.
