Description
The WiSens Wave is a specialised, compact subsurface data logger engineered for precise monitoring of tides, waves, and temperature down to a depth of 30 meters. Designed for coastal researchers, hydrographers, and environmental monitoring professionals, it delivers high-frequency hydrodynamic data collection while eliminating the friction of traditional cabled setups. By capturing rapid fluctuations via high-resolution hydrostatic pressure sensing, the unit provides critical insights into coastal dynamics, wave climates, and tidal patterns.
Features
- Sampling Rate: Programmable high-frequency sampling from 1 Hz up to 16 Hz, with sample sizes ranging from 512 to 32,768 and typical average durations spanning 1 minute to 1 hour.
- Measured Parameters: Tracks water temperature (-2°C to +35°C with 0.02°C accuracy) alongside precise depth and wave characteristics.
- Wireless Interface: Features built-in Wi-Fi and magnetic activation for effortless, cable-free configuration and data downloading (CSV/ZIP formats) directly to laptops, tablets, or smartphones.
- Physical Dimensions: Compact cylindrical profile measuring 220 mm x Ø 45 mm, weighing 262 g in air and just 51 g in water.
- Autonomy & Memory: Equipped with a 16 Mb memory capable of recording up to 3 million measures, powered by reliable, replaceable lithium batteries.
- Smart Triggers: Supports manual or programmable start/stop triggers based on date, temperature, or pressure thresholds.

The WiSens Wave measures wave heights and parameters using a high-accuracy pressure sensor (sub-surface water depth/hydrostatic pressure fluctuations) rather than an internal motion-tracking accelerometer. Because it is designed to be securely mounted or moored (fixed relative to the bottom or a rigid structure) rather than floating as a loose surface buoy, it calculates centimetric wave fluctuations and surface wave characteristics by sampling high-frequency hydrostatic pressure changes at rates up to 16 Hz.
