The Aquaread Optical CDOM/FDOM Electrode is a highly sensitive digital sensor engineered to detect and measure Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) and Fluorescent Dissolved Organic Matter (FDOM) in situ. Operating on the principle of ultraviolet (UV) fluorometry, the sensor projects a targeted UV excitation light beam at 365 nm directly into the water column. Dissolved organic materials, such as humic and fulvic acids, absorb this high-energy light and naturally fluoresce, emitting a shifted signal that the sensor isolates and measures through a filtered 450 nm window to determine real-time concentration levels.
What this electrode offers over universal commercial alternatives is its direct, plug-and-play alignment with Aquaread’s modular multi-parameter ecosystem. Outfitted with ultra-hard, scratch-resistant sapphire lenses rather than standard optical plastics, it eliminates the risks of micro-abrasions caused by sand particles in turbulent field environments. Active mechanical biofouling prevention is available as an adjustable system capability; while standard deployments on AP-LITE, AP-2000, and AP-5000 probes rely on static passive shrouds, the sensor integrates seamlessly with the heavy-duty motorized central wipers exclusive to the AP-6000 and AP-7000 platforms to preserve operational calibration during extended, long-term deployments.
