Turbidity Electrode

The Aquaread Optical Turbidity Electrode is a highly sensitive, specialized digital sensor designed to measure water clarity and suspended solids in situ. Operating on the nephelometric principle, the sensor emits an infrared light beam at 860 nm into the water column and detects the light scattered at a 90-degree angle by suspended particles. This method conforms strictly to international ISO 7027 design standards, ensuring maximum data integrity across changing environmental conditions.

What this electrode offers over competitor models is its seamless plug-and-play mechanical compatibility within Aquaread’s modular Aquaprobe and Aquasonde portfolios. Built with scratch-resistant, optically clear sapphire lenses instead of standard glass or plastic windows, it avoids abrasive deterioration caused by coarse sediments. Active mechanical biofouling prevention is available as a system capability rather than a mandatory cost; while standard deployments on AP-LITE, AP-2000, and AP-5000 multi-parameter probes rely on standard protective shrouds, the sensor integrates natively with the heavy-duty motorized central wipers exclusive to the AP-6000 and AP-7000 platforms for extended, unattended marine monitoring.

Key Features

  • ISO 7027 Compliance: Utilizes a precise 860 nm infrared light source to completely eliminate ambient light interference and background color distractions during open-air daylight profiling.
  • Dual Auto-Ranging Precision: Seamlessly shifts internal scaling from 0.0 to 99.9 NTU up to a maximum threshold of 3,000 NTU, providing sub-decimal accuracy in pristine waters and industrial effluents alike.
  • Ultra-Hard Sapphire Optics: Fitted with premium sapphire windows that protect the critical emission and receiving lenses from micro-abrasions in high-energy, high-sediment environments.
  • Flexible Biofouling Options: Works as a static sensor within entry-level systems or pairs directly with the active mechanical wiper systems built into the advanced AP-6000 and AP-7000 probe frames.
  • Universal Auxiliary Configuration: Screws directly into the standard auxiliary optical ports of all modular Aquaprobes, preventing the need for standalone logging equipment or complex wiring conversions.

Applications

  • Catchment and River Profiling: Tracking soil erosion patterns and suspended sediment transport rates along inland streams and active channels.
  • Drinking Water Intake Assurance: Monitoring source-water clarity baselines to optimize coagulation dosing and prevent sudden sediment influxes into water treatment facilities.
  • Construction Site Runoff Tracking: Providing legally defensible siltation logs to ensure structural compliance with regional stormwater environmental legislation.
  • Estuarine Dredging Surveillance: Deploying continuous monitoring loops around maritime dredging operations to trace suspended sediment plumes and protect benthic ecosystems.
