The SMP10 Pyranometer is a secondary standard pyranometer with a sealed internal drying cartridge that allows for 10 years operation without maintenance. The SMP10 is identical to the CMP10 pyranometer but includes an RS485 Modbus RTU interface allowing for an improved response time and rescaleable, temperature corrected measurement data. The amplified output options are 0-1V or 4-20mA and these are identically configured to allow for easy installation and exchange during recalibration. The SMP10 has a dual-dome construction with high quality glass and an increased thermal mass covering a spectral range of 285 to 2800nm. This unit is ideal for high quality solar radiation monitoring for site prospecting or technology research for solar energy applications and any locations where the access to the instrument for maintenance is difficult or restricted.

Details

The SMP10 Smart pyranometer and has a larger housing than the SMP3 with increased thermal mass. A 32 junction thermopile sensing element features faster response, better linearity and a wider measurement range than the SMP3. There are two high quality concentric glass domes, 2mm thick, which provide improved directional error and thermal isolation. The SMP10 has an internal desiccant that provides at least 10 years maintenance free operation.

The SMP10 come with a 0-1V or 4-20mA analogue output and these can be rescaled by the user with the supplied PC software. The units are configured with the 0-1V output set as -200 to 2,000Wm² and the 4-20mA output as a 0-1,600Wm². Negative ranges are provided to allow the sensor to show levels at night when there is heat emitted from the sensor.

All SMP's have the RS485 Modbus RTU interface, very low power requirements and are supplied with comprehensive, traceable, calibration certificates. Calibrations are traceable to the World Radiometric Reference (WRR) in Davos Switzerland and are performed in accordance with ISO 9847, Annex A.3 'Calibration of Field Pyranometers by comparison to a Reference Pyranometer's and are supplied with comprehensive, traceable, calibration certificates.

SMP10 instruments have an 8-pin socket and can be connected to a standard cable with a pre-wired waterproof 8 pin plug and flying leads. Cable lengths of 10m, 25m, 50m and 100m are available.

To improve the measurement accuracy of the SMP10 pyranometers the CVF4 ventilation unit can be used. It can be used outdoors under all weather conditions and includes a built in heater to keep the air just above ambient temperature which helps disperse precipitation and melt frost, or even melt snow and ice in cold climates. The CVF4 has a tacho output that can be used to check the proper operation of the CVF4. The output signal is 5V and nominal output should be at 146Hz. Higher frequency would suggest the filter needs replaced, whilst lower frequency could highlight an issue with the ventilator.
