Capacitance type rain sensor with digital output ( open collector ) for either raining or not raining condition, suitable for a wide range of data loggers. The surface sensor is heated to ensure that it is not affected by fog or dew.
This rain sensor has been developed for the detection of precipitation like rain and snow. When precipitation falls on the green sensor surface the output (Open collector) will switch on to GND (Ground). The green coating is especially developed for protection against copper (or other metal) and other kinds of pollution. The rain sensor is equipped with a circuit that heats the surface a few degrees above ambient temperature. This assures that the rain sensor is not sensitive for fog and dew, also it will help drying the surface after the precipitation has stopped falling (and output will switch faster to “no precipitation”).
The rain sensor can be equipped with a wind shield (option), which prevents the wind from interfering with the measurements.
