The CG 4 Pyrgeometer is intended for high accuracy infrared radiation (IR) measurement research, from 4.5 to 42 ¬µm. The CG 4 employs a unique solar blind ellipse shaped silicon dome, that offers a full 180¬? field of view, with good cosine response. The dome is hard carbon (diamond) coated, to protect from surface oxidation and scratching.
The dome ring assembly is specially engineered to deliver optimal thermal coupling between the dome, dome mounting ring, and instrument body. The excellent dome to body thermal coupling eliminates the need for the conventional dome thermistor and dT (delta-T) dome/body temperature offset calculation (as is the case with other competitive manufacturer pyrgeometer models), even under direct solar load conditions. The CG 4 is therefore equipped with a single body thermistor, in addition to the instruments thermopile sensing element. To determine incoming sky or surface emitted IR, in W/m2 units, the output signal voltage of the CG 4 sensing element, body temperature, and the factory supplied CG 4 calibration coefficient, are all an integral components of the IR calculation.
